New Math Unit!

We have started our new math unit. I have titled this unit Basic Facts. In this unit your child will be learning how to do basic addition and subtraction as well as discover the relationship between the two. The key learning is that students will be recalling basic addition and related subtraction facts to help solve real-world problems.

We will be doing learning activities that will target different skills such as making 10s (know that 6+4=10, 7+3=10, etc), doubles (4+4=8, 5+5=10, etc.), near doubles or doubles +1 (4+5=9, 5+6=11, etc.), fact families ( 1+2=3, 2+1=3, 3-2=1, 3-1=2) and problem solving.

It is important that your child master's this unit so that they have a solid understanding of the basics of addition and subtraction before we move on multiple-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping.

Take a look at the Student Learning Map below. This exactly what we'll be working on in the classroom.
